The Research

As a speaker about trauma I didn't want to just speak from, my own experiences, but I wanted to speak for people that have faced trauma, but don have the stage I have.

So I started speaking to a lot of trauma survivors, to hear their experiences. Through speaking with a lot of trauma survivors, I have noticed that there were similar themes they all went through. no matter the various backgrounds. That is what made me want to do more research into these trauma experiences.

So here is my research question.

What are the similarities within the experiences of people who have experienced trauma.

My research shows that almost every trauma survivor felt disconnected from society at some point. I believe that connection is a key theme not only in the trauma experience but also in the healing process

preliminary investigation

The research will be conducted through qualitative methods, with data collected by coding common themes. Interviews will take place either in person or via video calls, and the research will be carried out internationally, gathering diverse perspectives from trauma survivors across the globe. To see if there is any ground for this research, I interviewed 10 people for preliminary investigation. Here are some of the findings of these interviews.

multiple trauma
Almost all the people interviewed experienced multiple trauma’s. For example, early childhood trauma that repeats itself in adulthood.

outside of society
All the people interviewed explained that in some way they felt, alone, not understood or socially exiled.

let down by health care
Almost all the people interviewed experienced insufficient or no response when they got in touch with healthcare. Examples are misdiagnosis, not getting the root of the problem treated, or no reactions to warning signals.

proud of where they have come from
All the people interviewed told me that they are proud of themselves for where they are right now. Some were more confident saying so, than others.

hese are preliminary findings based on early interviews, and it’s important to note that the data has not yet been fully coded or analyzed, with more interviews still to follow.
